Illustrator & Animator

To showcase our friends, colleagues and clients, every now and then we put a Inspiring person in the limelight. Today’s headliner and a dear friend is MaÅ”a Avramović ā€” illustrator and animator from Belgrade (Serbia). Currently she lives in Valence (France) where she produces short animated movies for France Televisions. MaÅ”a is also a patient observer, explorer and traveler. She has a ā€˜thingā€™ for remote corners of the earth. What is the difference between traveling and tourism? How does her travels impact her work and everyday life? You must have noticed her affection to grannies in her illustrations ā€” where does that come from? Put on your headphones, hit play, and read along! Words by Sonja Trajkovic. ā€œKeep it simple. Know who matters and what they want, then design brands and experiences that.ā€

Why are you an animator?

Iā€™m an animator because of my love for art, which stems from a young age. Drawing was one of my favourite pastimes as a kid, I’d spend countless hours sketching at home and in school (I did a few detentions and sketched in those too).

If youā€™d asked the kid version of me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I wouldā€™ve definitely told you ā€œteddy bear surgeonā€. If youā€™d asked me to be serious, Iā€™d tell you ā€œsomeone who designs thingsā€.

Looking back, I guess I wasnā€™t far off.

Describe your job at without using the words “illustration” or “illustrator”.

I work to create more opportunities for artists to make money from their work on Spotify.

What would your self-portrait look like?

Who would you like to collaborate with and what would you make together?

My friends! Iā€™ve been lucky to have met so many talented people of all creative disciplines from around the world and even luckier to call them friends. Iā€™d love to work on some super mega project with all of them. A multi-faceted campaign that would highlight all the talents and cultures: fashion design, print design, music, video, and experiential design across multiple continents. Show us your happy place ā€“ somewhere you go to recharge your creative battery ā€“ and choose a soundtrack to go with it. Why here?

Location: Mardin, TĆ¼rkiye

Soundtrack: TV On The Radio ā€“ Staring at the Sun

Itā€™s scientifically proven that staring at the ocean alters our brainwave frequencies and puts us in a more meditative and creative space. Going to the beach for sunrise is a special routine for me to reset.

What are you excited about right now?

The future designers! I was lucky enough to volunteer as a mentor in a program that empowers kids to learn tech skills to make meaningful change. Itā€™s so exciting to see middle schoolers learning things I didnā€™t learn until I graduated college.
